About Ethembeni School

Ethembeni High School, often referred to as "The Foundation of Hope," is a thriving educational institution situated in the rural outskirts of Manzini, Eswatini, in an area called Ethembeni. Established in 2010, the school has become a pillar of hope and opportunity for the local community. Its name, Ethembeni, which translates to "place of hope," reflects its mission of inspiring learners and contributing to the development of the area.

The school opened its doors on March 31, 2010, under the guidance of its first Principal, Mr. A. Dlamini. Mr. Dlamini, along with a team of only two teachers, laid the foundation for what has now become a thriving institution. During its inaugural year, Ethembeni High School welcomed 37 Form 1 learners and 30 Form 2 learners, a modest beginning that marked the start of an inspiring journey.

As a government-aided community school, Ethembeni High School has benefited from the support of the Microprojects Programme, which has been instrumental in ensuring the institution’s growth and sustainability. The school is situated within the Gundvwini chiefdom and falls under the Mtfongwaneni Inkhundla, further embedding it within the heart of the local community. These ties have fostered a strong sense of collaboration and mutual support between the school and its surrounding stakeholders. Over the years, Ethembeni High School has experienced remarkable growth. From its initial enrollment of just 67 learners, the school now serves 270 students, organized into two streams at the junior secondary level. This expansion reflects the increasing demand for quality education in the area, as well as the school’s ability to rise to the occasion.

The teaching staff has also grown significantly, with 20 dedicated teachers currently employed at the school. These educators are deeply committed to providing learners with a strong academic foundation, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive world. Additionally, the school employs three support staff, including a secretary, who ensure the day-to-day operations run smoothly.

Ethembeni High School’s facilities and programs have evolved alongside its growing learner population. While the school remains rooted in its rural environment, it continually strives to improve and expand its offerings to meet the needs of its learners and the expectations of the broader educational system. It aims to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where learners can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
